Who We Are

We're not your typical architecture firm - we're basically obsessed with making cities work better for everyone while keeping Mother Nature happy.

Sustainable architecture project

Our Story

Back in 2012, we started Jade Flare in a cramped office above a coffee shop on Queen Street. The idea? Simple, really - stop designing buildings that fight against nature and start creating spaces that actually work with it.

Fast forward to today, and we've moved to a bigger space on Bay Street (still miss that coffee shop though). What hasn't changed is our commitment to pushing sustainable design further than most firms dare to go. We've done over 200 projects across Ontario, and honestly, each one teaches us something new.

The "Flare" part of our name? That's about bringing energy and innovation to every project. The "Jade"? Well, that represents growth, balance, and harmony - basically everything we think good urban design should be about.

Our Philosophy

Nature First

Every design decision starts with one question: how does this help the environment? If it doesn't, we go back to the drawing board.

People Matter

Buildings aren't just structures - they're where people live, work, and create memories. We never forget that human element.

Innovation Always

The "we've always done it this way" mentality? Yeah, that's not us. We're constantly experimenting with new materials and techniques.

Meet the Team

The folks who make it all happen

Sarah Chen

Sarah Chen

Founding Principal & Lead Designer

Sarah's the visionary who got this whole thing started. With 18 years in sustainable design, she's basically seen it all. Her green roof projects have won more awards than we have space to display them. When she's not sketching designs, you'll find her kayaking on Lake Ontario.

Marcus Williams

Marcus Williams

Senior Urban Planner

Marcus joined us in 2015 after working with the city planning department. He brings that insider knowledge of how Toronto actually works. His specialty? Making complex zoning regulations somehow work in our favor. Total coffee addict and weekend woodworker.

Priya Patel

Priya Patel

LEED Consultant & Sustainability Director

Priya's the reason we've achieved LEED Platinum on so many projects. She's got an engineering background and knows building systems inside-out. If there's a way to make something more efficient, she'll find it. Marathon runner and plant mom to about 50 succulents.

James Kowalski

James Kowalski

Heritage Restoration Specialist

James is our go-to guy for making old buildings new again - sustainably. He's got this amazing ability to respect historical integrity while sneaking in modern eco-tech. Been with us since 2017 and literally wrote a book on adaptive reuse. Huge history buff and amateur photographer.

Elena Rodriguez

Elena Rodriguez

Smart Infrastructure Designer

Our newest senior team member, Elena came from a tech background and brings fresh ideas about IoT integration in buildings. She's all about making structures that think for themselves. Graduated top of her class from Waterloo and plays bass in a local band on weekends.

David Thompson

David Thompson

Project Manager & Client Relations

David keeps everything running on schedule and on budget - no easy feat in this business. He's the calm voice when things get chaotic (which they do). Been managing construction projects for 20 years and still hasn't lost his cool. Devoted dad and BBQ enthusiast.

Our Certifications & Partnerships

We don't just talk about sustainability - we've got the credentials to back it up. Our team holds multiple LEED accreditations, we're certified by the Canadian Green Building Council, and we're active members of the Ontario Association of Architects. We also partner with environmental organizations and research institutions to stay ahead of the curve.

Why Work With Us?

Look, we're not gonna claim we're perfect or that we know everything. What we will say is this: we genuinely care about creating spaces that'll still be relevant and functional 50 years from now. We listen more than we talk (well, we try), we're honest about what's possible within your budget, and we won't BS you with jargon.

Every project we take on gets the same level of attention, whether it's a 50-story tower or a small community center. And yeah, we might push you outside your comfort zone sometimes, but that's usually where the magic happens.
